Parley For The Oceans put together an incredible experience for 28 kids between 13 and 18 years old. We saw speeches from world change-makers, did some fun workshop activities, developed campaigns, saw, learnt, and did some awesome things, we got inspired, and we worked together.
A big part of the event was we all got put into four groups. There was 'habitat loss', 'indigenous guardianship', 'commercial fishing', and 'plastic pollution'. Over four days each group developed a real campaign to bring a solution to each problem. Each group had amazing ideas and I can’t wait to see it grow and the outcome.
We also did things like learn about celestial navigation, did beach cleanups, painting buoys, surfing, stand up paddle boarding, snorkelling, a relay race, and heaps more. I learnt things like play the ukulele, play the Pū (conch shell), surfing and a bit of Hawaiian.
We all made friends with each other and I now have lifelong best friends from the event.
